Banaras Hindu University will add over 1,300 seats for OBC candidates in its various departments this academic session.
The controller of examinations, BHU said that a total of 1,368 seats will be added this year in different courses under the second phase of inducting more students in accordance with the UGC recommendation for 27 per cent OBC quota.
A total of 648 seats were added in the first phase last year, he said.
He said that in the next academic session (2010-11) also 2,365 seats will be added, marking the full implementation of OBC quota in the university.
The university administration had decided to implement the UGC recommendations in various disciplines in three phases starting last year.
The UGC also sanctioned grant of Rs 561.25 crore for expansion and upgradation of departments to accommodate the increased strength of students in different disciplines and other requirements in the university.
Rajesh Singh, chairman, press publicity cell, BHU told PTI that a number of faculties including post graduate courses in law and faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan have already introduced the prescribed quota since the last academic session.
