Fed up of issuing challans for the ever-increasing number of traffic violations, the traffic police have now come up with a novel scheme: gifting those who choose not to disobey traffic rules.

Crockery items, watches, bouquets, pens, mugs among other items—all colourfully gift-wrapped—will be up for grabs for the thousands of drivers who ply on Faridabad's roads everyday. All they need to do is follow the traffic rules.

Those who observe the rules may find a constable rushing to stop him in the middle of the road only hand him his 'surprise gift' complete with a thank-you note.

Details like how many gift items have been ordered and how will the recipients be selected are under wraps for now. All that is known is that the 'scheme' starts next week.

"We have placed the order for these gift items. They will arrive next week," said Atma Ram, SHO Traffic, Faridabad.
