Officials race to pull out toddler stuck in tubewell in MP

Rescuers raced to pull out a 14-month-old boy who fell into a 100-feet deep tubewell in a Chhatarpur district village on Wednesday evening. Officials said the child was stuck at a depth of 18 feet.

Rescuers raced to pull out a 14-month-old boy who fell into a 100-feet deep tubewell in a Chhatarpur district village on Wednesday evening.

Officials said the child, who was stuck at a depth of 18 feet, was alive and they were pumping oxygen in to help him breathe.

The operations were on till late evening when reports last came in. According to officials, the incident happened in an agricultural field at village Lidhora under Bhagwa police station of Bada Malehra tehsil area.

Bhagwa police station officer Nisar Farouqi said the child’s mother was visiting the village to meet her brother and had left the child playing outside. The boy is said to have fallen into the tubewell shortly afterwards.

Four digging machines were pressed into service at the site, where senior district officials and a medical team were present.
