The state social security welfare department is all set to revamp the old-age pension scheme.

The handicap and widow pension schemes will also be revised.

Earlier, the applicants could apply only once a year to avail the benefits of the schemes. But from July 1, 2011, people can apply anytime.

As of now, there are 38,191 beneficiaries availing the old-age pension scheme in the district, while 16,839 women are benefiting from the widow pension scheme and 2,777 from the handicap scheme.

Talking about it, district social welfare officer Neelam Kumari said, “Even we got the information, but we are waiting for an official notification to implement it.”
