Oman air will soon adopt an innovative strategy to generate pilgrim traffic out of Gulf-bound workers and business travellers from Lucknow to religious destinations in the Arab world.

The strategy involves popularising not only the Omani destinations of religious significance through distribution of literature on Oman’s rich cultural heritage but also those which are in other Saudi kingdoms from its regional office in Lucknow. The move involves urging tourists and job seekers to extend their stay in Muscat and then take up onward flights to holy places on their trips to West Asia.

The airline which recently launched tri-weekly flights from Muscat to Lucknow is gung-ho about tapping a tourist segment otherwise left ignored for decades—the business travellers and the gulf bound job seekers who had been extending their trips to understand the cultural heritage of the Arab world.

The strategy also involves asking the Oman Air ticketing agents across Uttar Pradesh to promote Omani tourist destinations for wooing the gulf bound job seekers and business travellers.

An estimated 5.5 lakh skilled and unskilled workers visit Saudi Arabia in search of jobs in West Asia every year from Uttar Pradesh. This is apart from the regular Haj and Umrah pilgrims who fly every year for their pilgrimage to the holy places in the Saudi kingdom.

‘We are keen on tapping the tremendous potential of flying gulf bound workers, business travellers and pilgrims to holy places in Bharain, Doha, Cairo and Abh Dhabim on their trips to Muscat’, Mohamed Salim, Country Manager, Oman Air told HT Lucknow Live.

He said that the airline would also promote tourist and religious destinations in Lucknow among Saudi nationals by distributing brochures about the tourist places in the nawabi city in Oman.

None of the tourists, business travellers and job seekers face any language problem as certified translators from Arabic language to English are provided by the airline to offer all assistance, Salim added.
