Omar Abdullah called on Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra and submitted his resignation as chief minister on Wednesday, an official spokesperson said.

Vohra accepted the resignation, but asked him to continue till alternative arrangements were made.

"The governor has accepted Abdullah's resignation and requested him to continue in office till alternative arrangements are made," the spokesman said. Omar had taken over as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir in January 2009 to head the NC-Congress coalition.
