The battleground for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has got extended to the micro-blogging site Twitter. Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday threw a tweet challenge at opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti.
Refer ring to the online exchange of bouquets and brickbats on Twitter between rivals Aam Aadmi Party’s Chandigarh candidate Gul Panag and BJP’s Kirron Kher, Omar wrote: “Now if only Mehbooba Mufti would RT me the way @GulPanag is RT’ing @ KirronKherBJP it would make for a much better political environment :-) (sic)”.
It seems the chief minister sees signs of vibrant democracy in opponents re-tweeting each other’s tweets either to endorse or oppose the views.
Interestingly, Omar’s profile message is clear on re-tweeting. “I am currently CM of J&K; tweets are my own but more often than not the line blurs :-) Re-tweets just mean something interested me,” he said.
“We would not respond to the tweet,” said PDP spokesman Nayeem Akhtar.
This is not the first time Omar has poked fun at Mehbooba online. Last year, Omar went hammer and tongs when he tweeted: “Hey, I got tweeted by Mehbooba Mufti but gosh, there’s no way I’d believe it’s really her. Show me a sign Mehbooba.”
The tweet had apparently come from a f ake handle and Mehbooba had confirmed the same.
