Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abadullah on Saturday said his government will continue in its endeavour to meet aspirations of the people in the state and sought the cooperation of the masses to put the Valley back on the track of progress and development.

Omar interacted with representatives of various political, social and religious organisations during his day long tour to border districts of Poonch and Rajouri on Friday.

He said the government was making every effort to create a congenial atmosphere but cooperation of the people was needed as certain elements were creating hurdles in taking forward its people-friendly policies, he said.

Referring to the incident of firing in Mendhar district which led to loss of three precious lives, Omar regretted the use of brute force on the protesters and also expressed his grief over the incidents of civilian killings witnessed during the last three months in the Valley.

He said some forces were taking advantage to propagate their political agenda by inciting religious sentiments of the people and provoking them to resort to arson and damaging public property.

Torching of government offices ultimately hurt interest of the people as the administration will face inconvenience in future in finding revenue and other records, he added.

He hailed the people of border districts particularly that of Rajouri for maintaining harmony and hoped that they will continue to act sensibly in future also.

Omar also assured a large number of deputations, who met him and informed about the problems in their areas, to look into their demands.

The Chief Minister also discussed developmental and other issues with respective district administrations and issued directions for further streamlining of functioning of the departments.

Earlier, he also reviewed security scenario in Jammu province at a high level meeting here last evening.
