Sources informed the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday when a police bus was on its way from Gurgaon's Bhondsi jail to Palwal.
“When the bus reached Sector 2 in Palwal, some prisoners started quarrelling with the policemen. Some broke open the emergency door and 18 prisoners fled,” Additional Superintendent of Police Palwal Hukum Singh told Hindustan Times. “But our cops managed to nab two of them — Mushtaq and Sajid of Mewat,” he said.
“The incident caused delay in the remaining prisoners' production before the courts on Saturday,” Sanjay Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Palwal, said.
Reacting to unconfirmed reports that a vehicle was following the bus and the prisoners who escaped used it vehicle to flee, Kumar said, “These are just rumours. Unless we re-capture some among those who fled and confirm this thing, we can not comment."
Four prisoners belong to Rajasthan, two are from Uttar Pradesh and the rest are from different parts of Haryana including Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal.
The police said 10 teams have been formed to arrest the fugitives.
