One killed, eight injured in lightning strike

A CRPF Jawan was killed and eight others including three women injured when lightning struck them at different places in Jharkhand on Tuesday.

A CRPF Jawan was killed on the spot and two of his colleagues injured when the thunderbolt accompanied by rain lashed Ghatsila sub-division in East Singhbhum district this afternoon, police sources said.

They were were part of joint combing operation team and were stuck up in the mid of jungle in course of the operation when the incident took place, sources said.

Six persons including three women were injured when thunderbolt accompanied by rains hit them in two different places in Dumka district this afternoon, police sources said.

Five persons including two women, who took shelter at a roadside eatery after rain lashed Gopikandar were rushed to Sadar Hospital, Dumka after they were hit by the lightning, hospital sources said.

The victims were identified as Arjun Mirdha (15), Subho Devi (35), Gayatri Devi (22), Jagannath Murmu (30), Ganesh Pujhar (16).

In an another incident, a woman, Rupa Devi (35), who was taking bath in her house in Jeruadih in the district sustained injury when lightning struck her.
