One person was shot dead and four others were kidnapped by suspected Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) militants, who also set ablaze the truck in which the victims were travelling in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district in Diphu on Wednesday, police said.
A sand-carrying truck with five people was waylaid by the militants at Kafitoli bordering neighbouring Nagaon district and set ablaze by the militants, who also killed the helper of the truck, Naba Basumatary.
Four other labourers were abducted by the militants and taken to a nearby hill from where gun shots were heard by the villagers, sources said.
The police have launched a massive combing operation to trace the abducted labourers and nab the militants.
The KLNLF had declared unilateral ceasefire for two months in January this year and it expired on Tuesday.
