One killed, two others injured as bus overturns

One person was killed and two others were injured when an over-speeding bus they were travelling in, overturned at Tanda, Akhnoor, nearly 40 kilometers from Jammu on Monday.

Police said the bus from Poonch to Jammu overturned at around 3pm. Cleaner of the bus Tariq Hussain, who was a resident of Mandi, Poonch, died on the spot. A passenger Gopal Krishen, who is a resident of Canal Road, Jammu, was injured.

He was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. The second injured, Kawja Husaain of Mendhar, Poonch, suffered minor injuries and was discharged from Government Hospital, Akhnoor, after receiving first-aid treatment.

Police said the bus driver Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Chingus, Rajouri, fled from the spot. A manhunt had been launched to nab him, police added. A case was registered and investigations are on.
