A day after Defence Minister AK Antony's announcement that the committee, set up to probe the rise in suicide and fratricide cases among Army personnel would submit its report/recommendation within two months for its implementation, another Army jawan committed suicide at his unit in Kaluchack in Jammu on Monday.
The body of the deceased was found hanging with a rope tied with the ceiling of the bathroom on Monday morning.
"Sarvesh Kumar of 126 Saata Battery committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope tied with the ceiling of the bathroom in Jammu at his unit in Kaluchack on Monday morning," informed SP, City South, Zahid Manhas.
Giving details, SP Zahid Manhas said that "the deceased was working as an orderly at Non Commissioned Officers (NCO) Mess at Kaluchack. The incident came to fore when other jawans putting in that camp noticed that the bathroom was locked from inside and nobody was responding when being knocked from outside."
"When the door of the bathroom was broken, the body of the deceased was found hanging," said SP Zahid Manhas adding that "as per the first hand information, the deceased had served bed tea to some of the NCOs and later went to the bathroom for a bath but never returned." "A torn note believed to be written by the deceased indicates that he was mentally upset because of some family problem," said the police officer.
Inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPc have been initiated and the body of the deceased has been shifted for postmortem.
