One person was killed and two others were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire to quell a stone-pelting mob in Bandipora district of north Kashmir today, a police spokesman said.

A large number of protestors had gathered at Ajas, 45 kms from Srinagar, and started raising provocative slogans, the spokesman said.

A section of crowd started pelting stones at security forces, who fired warning shots to disperse them.

Three persons were injured in the incident, the spokesman said, adding one of the injured identified as Nissar Ahmad Bhat was declared brought dead at a Srinagar hospital.

With Bhat's death, the toll in the 95-day unrest in the Valley has risen to 72.

The spokesman said stone-pelting incidents were also reported from several other places, including Sabzi Mandi in Soura area of the city and Machow and Goga-Humhama in Budgam district. Police used batons, lobbed teargas shells and fired warning shots to disperse the protestors but there was no report of any casualty, official sources said.
