A Maoist was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, official sources said in Dantewada on Thursday.

A combined team of CRPF, Special Action Force and state police including SPOs, who were on patrolling duty on Wednesday night, came under fire from Left-wing extremists.

During the exchange of fire, which happened between Burkapal village and Chintagufa in Dantewada, the Naxals also set off a mine.

A body of a Naxal was found from the spot and drag marks were seen indicating that the Maoists had dragged away some dead or injured cadres, the sources said. Security forces also recovered 300 metre long wire and batteries from the spot.

The Cabinet Committee on Security is expected to take a call on the home ministry’s proposal for greater assistance from the armed forces in anti-Maoist operations.
