Insuring your travel in a foreign land can save you the time and the trouble of finding your way. Now, buying your travel insurance has become easier you can buy it online through a travel portal.
While insurance companies have alawys provided online purchases of insurance, it's always been a somewhat cumbersome process. With travel portals, the industry has now begun to directly engage the customer. "Online travel insurance is not only convenient since one can get it even at the last moment, but customers can also extend their policies online when travelling abroad," said Kartik Jain, Head of Marketing at Tata AIG, which has begun to offer online travel insurance through journeymart.com.
Tata AIG offers a variety of insurance products, including Gold, Platinum and Silver plans. It also has plans for senior citizens and covers that extend for multiple trips.The premium depends on the destination region or city, duration of travel and the age of the policy seeker and could also cover unexpected trips, cancellations, trip delays, medical expense/ evacuation, and baggage loss or delay. Products are offered specifically for individuals, family, students and corporates are offered.
"People buying on the Net do not want to be confused with various options, so we have tried to keep a minimum number of questions and fewers steps to complete the transaction. Once payments are done, the policy is e-mailed to the policy seeker", says Jasjit Singh, Executive Director at journeymart.com.
Other portals do offer online purchase travel insurance, but not directly to consumers. Travelmart.com, for instance, will take you to ICICI Lombard's website, while Travel Corporation of India puts across the consumer to TATA-AIG's website.
Buying travel insurance policies online is more popular among corporate houses and individual entrepreneurs. But as online tickets or holiday package booking grows, the online travel insurance market is also expected to follow.
