Oppn to move adjournment motion on Uma

india Updated: Nov 01, 2006 15:24 IST

THE WINTER Session of the State Assembly is expected to start on a stormy note on Wednesday with the opposition parties led by the Congress deciding to move an adjournment motion on the issue of alleged attack on former Chief Minister Uma Bharti’s cavalcade in Chhatarpur on Monday.

The decision to bring the adjournment motion was taken at a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) held on Tuesday evening at the residence of the leader of opposition Jamuna Devi. Former chief minister Digvijay Singh, state Congress president Subhash Yadav, former speaker Hajarilal Raghuvanshi and several Congress MLAs attended the meeting.

The basis of the adjournment motion would be that the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state to an extent that the security and personal dignity of a former chief minister is at stake.

Other opposition parties are also expected to join the adjournment motion. It was also decided during the meeting that the opposition would put up a united front to take up issues of public interest in a very pointed and effective manner and not allow any deviation from the core issues.
