The Opposition on Friday supported the impeachment motion of Justice Soumitra Sen of the Calcutta High Court by Rajya Sabha members saying the process should be expedited.
"This is a serious issue...We will get him impeached at the earliest," JD(U) President Sharad Yadav told reporters outside Parliament.
Yadav said the Opposition would also ask Congress to support the impeachment motion against the judge.
BJP Rajya Sabha member S S Ahluwalia said the Chief Justice of India had written a letter to the prime minister on Sen's impeachment.
"We are concerned that no action was taken even after the CJI letter," Ahluwalia said, adding that the Opposition has now joined hands to the issue.
Asked about the non-cooperation of Congress on the impeachment motion, Ahluwalia said, "The PM comes from the Congress and how can the Congressmen go against it".
CPI Secretary D Raja underplayed the Left joining hands with the BJP on the issue. "It is a specific issue... impeachment motion. There is no politics here," he said.
Raja said the Opposition met the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on the impeachment and hoped that it materialises soon.
