WOMEN TEAMS of Orissa, Chandigarh and Kerala entered the final of the single scull event, organised under the 27th Open and 11th Sprint National Rowing Championship, on Thursday.

WOMEN TEAMS of Orissa, Chandigarh and Kerala entered the final of the single scull event, organised under the 27th Open and 11th Sprint National Rowing Championship, on Thursday.

The championship is being organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department in association with the MP Rowing Association at Water Sports Centre, Upper Lake, on Thursday. Kerala, Andaman and Punjab teams registered their name in the final of the women’s coxless event.

The events of the 2000m organised on the second day of the championship. Defending champion Orissa dominated the women’s single scull event in the semifinals. Chandigarh and Kerala gave tough fight to each other and qualified for the finals.

Finals will be organised on Friday. But women of Orissa could not qualify for the finals of the coxless category. Andman team, victims of Tsunami, looked comfortable in the coxless event. Kerala and Punjab were the other two teams to qualify for the finals.

Teams of Delhi, Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra and Karnataka qualified for the semifinals of the men’s lightweight double scull category. Winners of men’s team championship of 2006, Andhra Pradesh team maintained their rhythm on the second day and qualify for the semifinals of the coxless event. Karnataka, Delhi and Punjab were the other teams to qualify for the semifinals of the same event.
