With the Supreme Court refusing to stay construction of Polavaram project in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Orissa government was planning to apprise the Apex Court of a violation of Forest Rights Act and Environment Protection Act.
"The state government will apprise the Supreme Court about violations of EPA and FRA due to Polavaram project. The state government will also set up a team of engineers to inspect the project site along with the experts appointed by the apex court," Water Resource secretary S C Mohapatra said.
Besides violation of EPA and FRA, the project also violated the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal order, Mohapatra claimed.
The tribunal had earlier observed that Polavaram project in AP was likely to submerge certain villages in Orissa, he said.
The apex court earlier this week had rejected the Orissa government's prayer to grant stay on the Polavaram dam construction.
While refusing to grant stay order, the SC has directed former member of the Central Water Commission (CWC) M Gopalakrishnan to inspect the Polavaram project along with CWC and submit separate reports.
The Orissa government had challenged the Centre's decision to give final environmental clerance to Polavaram project in the Supreme Court.
