FOUR WICKETS each by S Mohanty and Bikash Pati helped defending champions Orissa notch up an emphatic 10-wicket win against UP (West) in the opening league match of the 6th All-India BSNL Cricket Tournament, at the BBD Ground here on Monday.

FOUR WICKETS each by S Mohanty and Bikash Pati helped defending champions Orissa notch up an emphatic 10-wicket win against UP (West) in the opening league match of the 6th All-India BSNL Cricket Tournament, at the BBD Ground here on Monday.

Host UP (East) also carved out a nine-wicket win against Uttaranchal, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium to launch their campaign in style. D3esh Deepak took 3/8, while RS Pawar struck unbeaten 55 in 57 balls with eight hits to the fence.

In other matches of the day, West Bengal beat Andhra Pradesh by nine wickets, Madhya Pradesh beat Maharashtra by 10 wickets, MTNL Mumbai beat Rajasthan by nine wickets, Assam beat Bihar by eight wickets, Punjab beat Chhattisgarh by seven wickets and Tamil Nadu beat by eight wickets.

Earlier, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL Board, New Delhi, AK Sinha inaugurated the tournament.

UP (West) 38 in 14.2 overs (PN Sharma 11, S Mohanty 4 for 13, Bikas Pati 4 for 14). Orissa 42 for no loss in 3.2 overs (BBC Mohapatra 25 not out, Sanjay Satpathy 11 not out).

Uttaranchal 72 in 21.5 overs (SS Rana 18, Desh Deepak 3 for 8, CS Paul 2 for 7, RS Pawar 2 for 14). UP (East) 76 for 1 in 12.3 overs (RS Pawar 55 not out).
Andhra Pradesh 92 in 25.4 overs (Rama Krishna 18, S das 3 for 8, Sudip Patil 2 for 14, W Mazumdar 2 for 16, Saurav Sarkar 2 for 22). West Bengal 93 for 1 in 11.4 overs (W Mazumdar 52 not out, Sudip Patil 28 not out).

Maharashtra 119 in 30 overs (Amit Patil 73, S Rane 14). Madhya Pradesh 123 for no loss in 13.3 overs (Mohnish Mishra 64 not out, G Satish Kumar 50 not out).

Rajasthan 106 for 7 in 30 overs (Naresh Kumar 29, Anuj Katiyar 19, Santosh Bhatkar 3 for 19). MTNL Mumbai 107 in 18.4 overs (Sanket Paralkar 48 not out, Nandkishore Saraf 26).

Bihar 73 in 22.4 overs (RP Singh 21, Arup Saha 2 for 7,  Roy 2 for 11, R Bora 2 for 12, D Goswami 2 for 19). Assam 77 for 2 in 10.1 overs (S Das 31 not out, D Goswami 28 not out).

Chhattisgarh 141 in 30 overs (Anand Dogre 53, Mohd Shafique 42, Ankur Kakkar 3 for 28). Punjab 145 for 3 in 22 overs (Ankur Kakkar 91 not out, Amrit Mohan 26).
