A 10-year-old orphan was rescued from the residence of an air force personnel in Ghaziabad, where he was being held as a bonded labourer.

“I was made to do daily household work, clean utensils, wash floors and clothes. If I refused, the couple severely beat me up and locked me up in a room and did not give me anything to eat for many days as punishment. I was not allowed to go out. They used to gag me before thrashing me when I made a mistake,” Jitendra Kumar told HT.

He was rescued by when his cries alerted Rajesh Kumar’s neighbours in New Karheda Colony. Rajesh is a non-commissioned personnel with Hindon Air base at Ghaziabad. “We heard the child’s loud cries and decided to break open the door lock to rescue the child. Rajesh and his wife had gone to the air base at Hindon for around 12 noon,” a neighbour said. Later, they thrashed the couple who were saved by police from the angry mob.

“I lost my mother in my childhood and father a year back when these people brought me to Muzaffarpur on the pretext of taking care of me. But I landed up being a servant in captivity,” Jitendra said. Rajesh said that he was taking care of the boy as he had no parents.

The boy was sent for a medical examination to Ghaziabad’s MMG hospital in the afternoon. Sahibabad police confirmed injuries on the body’s body, including his face, back, arms and legs.

“The injuries have been indicated in the medical examination and were also clearly visible on different parts of his body,” circle officer Satpal Singh said.

The boy would be produced at a Ghaziabad Court on Thursday and the court will decide about his custody, police said.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Sections 341, 323, 504 of the Indian Penal Code and also under sections of Child Labour Act, the police said. Police also informed Hindon Air Base authorities of the incident.
