Centre on Wednesday said a total of 1,725 incidents of violence related to terrorism, Naxalism and insurgency have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast and Naxal-affected states during the first five months this year.
In written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken said 915 such incidents were reported from Naxal-affected states this year as against 1,591 such cases in 2008.
Maken said in Northeastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, 624 and 186 such incidents have taken place respectively.
According to the data, 1,561 and 708 incidents were reported from North-East and Jammu and Kashmir last year.
The Minister also said "the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been constituted and its Director General, has been appointed and assumed office. Also, 217 additional posts have been sanctioned. The National Investigation Agency has been assigned three cases for investigation and prosecution."
