More than 100 Shiv Sainiks were arrested by cops in different parts of city. They were moving towards the sensitive Gyanwapi complex to perform 'Jalabhishek' of Lord Shiva and Shringar Gauri in the hyper- sensitive Gyanwapi complex on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Friday.

Shiv Sainiks created ruckus at Godowlia crossing  for nearly 15 minutes when cops tried to stop them from approaching the complex, around 300 metres away from there. Soon, cops in a large number surrounded them and finally put them on a Mahanagri bus.

As per their pre -scheduled programme, Sainiks led by district chief Gulshan Kapoor and city secretary Shiv Seth, assembled at Luxa at around 1 pm and marched in a procession  towards the Godowlia crossing. As they reached the Girzaghar crossing, cops cordoned off the road and tried to stop them but overzealous Sainiks pushed back the cops and ran towards the main Godowlia crossing. Again, a tussle took place between the cops and Sainiks. Around 30 Sainiks were arrested here.

The Sainiks made an attempt to break the police cordon but they were outnumbered by cops who arrested them and took them to Police Lines in a bus.

Meanwhile, another group of 45 Sainiks led by Varun Singh, was arrested near the statue of Madan Mohan Malviya in Lanka area. Another group of Sainiks led by Bachnu Vishwakerma and Chandra Kala Devi was arrested in Pandeypur area. They were released by the cops in the evening.
