Over 20 file nomination papers in Ladakh region

More than 20 candidates belonging to various political parties and Independents filed nominations in different constituencies in Ladakh region on Wednesday, the last day of nominations for the first phase of elections,While eight candidates filed papers for Kargil and Zanskar, 13 candidates filed papers for Leh and Nubra constituencies.

In Kargil, Congress candidate Haji Asgar Ali Karbalie, PDP nominee Haji Anayat Ali, NC candidate Dr Kacho Mohd Hussain and Munshi Abdul Aziz Bhat of BJP filed their nominations.

In Zanskar, Congress candidate Ghulam Raza, PDP's Ghulam Mohd, BJP's Stanzin Lakpa and Independent candidate Aga Syed Baqir Razvi s filed their papers.

Meanwhile, a government spokesman said Kargil district election officer (DEO) Mohammad Sadiq Sheikh convened a meeting of zonal and sectoral magistrates. He briefed the offcials about maintenance of law and order and peaceful conduct of elections, including observance of model code of conduct.

The DEO also directed the magistrates to supervise the arrival and dispatch of polling materials and polling staffs to polling stations with arrangement of transportation up to strong room.
The officers were also imparted training of new techniques of EVMs.

A rally was organised in Zanskar by local SDM for generating awareness about voting and under SVEEP programme.

In the rally students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Padum, and other schools participated along with voters.
