A diarrhoea outbreak has gripped city’s Prempuri area with more than 60 people reporting sick. The victims are undergoing treatment at various city hospitals.
The health department has asked civic agencies supplying drinking water to increase chlorination and plug leakages in the supply lines.
Mahender Gupta, district malaria officer, said, “Water supply suddenly got contaminated in the area. We have asked the authorities to repair pipes. Residents of the area should boil water before drinking.”
Residents, however, blame the administration. “This happens every year. We have been getting contaminated water for the last seven to eight days. Though we informed the authorities, nothing concrete has been done so far,” said a resident.
