World champions Australia enjoyed a useful workout ahead of the semi-finals as they hammered Malaysia 7-0 to conclude their pool A league engagements with an all-win record in the men's hockey competition at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Sunday.
The Aussies top pool A with 12 points and will take on New Zealand, placed second in pool B, in the semi-final. England await the outcome of the India-Pakistan game to know their opponents in the round of four.
The Aussies, who led 4-0 at the break, had few problems against the Malaysians, whose defence committed blunders early in the match and were mercilessly punished.
Penalty corner specialist Luke Doerner converted three while Chris Ciriello, Simon Orchard, Glenn Turner and Eddie Ockenden scored one apiece.
The Malaysians finished fourth in the pool with three points, just ahead of winless Scotland.
