Ace lawn tennis player and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, Leander Paes, would be the Sports Ambassador of Haryana.
Stating that the decision was taken at a meeting held between the Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Paes, here on Wednesday, an official release said that the Paes would motivate the youths to take up sports as a career.
He would also set up a sports centre on PPP model in the national capital region of Haryana, land for which would be provided by the state government. Besides, Paes would also help the sports department in developing better sports infrastructure and put in place state-of-art training facilities for sportspersons of Haryana, the release said and added that the Haryana government had on Tuesday signed an MoU with Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association to train its players in the presence of the chief minister and Paes.
Incidentally, the state government was celebrating this year as the 'Year of Youth'. Many Haryana players had recently brought laurels to the state and the nation with their sterling performances in various national and international sports tournaments.
