Pak dismisses EU report on Kashmir
The European Parliament's draft report on Jammu and Kashmir rejected Islamabad's demand for plebiscite in the state.
Pakistan on Thursday dismissed the European Parliament's draft report on Jammu and Kashmir, which rejected Islamabad's demand for plebiscite in the state.
"This is an individual's report which has been presented to the European Parliaments Foreign Relations Committee.
In this context what is of importance and relevance will be the Kashmiri opinion," Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said.
The report on Kashmir being debated by EP's foreign affairs committee in Brussels said, "Continuing calls for a plebiscite on the final status of Jammu and Kashmir are wholly out of step with the needs of the local people and thus damaging to their interests".
The rapporteur of the report titled "Kashmir, present situation and future prospects" is British MEP Baronness Emma Nicholson who visited Kashmir earlier this year
Without going to the substance of the EU report, Aslam has been quoted in the media here today as saying that "Kashmiris in India and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) and their diaspora have a lot to comment on the report".
