Pakistan fires mortar shells along border, targets 6 BSF posts

Pakistan fired mortar shells along the international border in Arnia sector, about 20km from Jammu city, on Sunday night, a BSF official said.

The Pakistan rangers fired at six forward BSF posts, also damaging some buildings and houses along the border.

Firing began on Sunday evening at about 5pm and continued till 7pm, with 25 rounds being fired by the Pakistani side. Mortal shells were then fired intermittently through the night.

The incident comes a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on July 10, on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

PM Modi will be in Russia to attend the SCO along with the BRICS summit.
