Renowned flautist, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and vocalist Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande will enchant audiences with performances at the Elephanta Festival scheduled for February 23 and 24, 2007.

The two-day festival, being held in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services, will also feature performances by danseuse Alarmel Valli, Odissi exponent Madhvi Mudgal and noted pakhwaj maestro Pandit Bhavani Shankar.

The festival, targeted mainly at foreign tourists, has been an annual feature at the Elephanta Caves since 1989. Organised by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), the nearly 30 per cent of the audience for the festival are foreign tourists.

The MTDC is also organising a programme only for foreign invitees — counsul generals of various countries will be among those invited — to showcase the culture of Maharashtra. The programme will be held on February 19 at the Gateway of India and will feature Ashok Hande's Marathi Bana, which depicts the state's folk and music tradition.
