Tension gripped north Kashmir’s Sopore after unidentified gunmen shot dead a youth late Sunday evening.
Omar Rasool Kaboo, 23, a resident of Arampora, was shot dead after he was asked by unknown gunmen to accompany them when he was at his residence, which also has a shop at the front run by the victim.
“Kaboo received three phone calls on his mobile at around 7:30 pm. The callers apparently asked him to come out of his house,” said a neighbor on the condition of anonymity.
Superintendent of police Sopore Imtiyaz Hussain said Kaboo was shot dead outside from point blank range in his head. “The killing was unexpected. We have registered a case and investigations are on to nab the killers,” said Hussain.
The victim, a mechanic by profession, was buried on Monday morning with hundreds participating in the funeral. Local shops remained closed in the area. The incident created panic.
Police suspect militants hand in the attack. “Preliminary investigations reveal that the boy has been killed by militants as some militants were active in the area.
Sunday’s attack was second such attack in Sopore in the past four days. Unidentified gunmen fired at a shopkeeper at Warpora last week but he escaped unhurt.
