A day after the forest department claimed that they had captured a man-eater panther that had killed three victims recently, a five-year old girl was killed by another panther in Udaygarh village on Friday.
The girl was playing outside her house around 7am when the panther attacked her. While the beast was dragging the victim away, the girl’s brother raised an alarm. Scared, the panther left the girl and ran into the forest.
Villagers rushed the girl to Rannapur hospital from where she was referred to district hospital. She succumbed to her injuries within few hours. Senior forest officials swung into action after the incident and also launched a hunt for the panther. Cages have been placed near the village to trap the maneater and two more cages have been ordered.
In the earlier incidents about a week ago, an 8-year-old girl and 30-year-old pregnant woman was killed by a panther, which was trapped on Thursday by the forest department officials. They had claimed that it was the man-eater leopard. It was shifted to the Indore zoo and the forest department officials are mulling on whether to keep it in the zoo or release it in the wild.
