STUDENTS OF the IIT-Kanpur on Tuesday claimed it was the first day when their parents joined them in a hunger strike against the proposed reservation for OBCs. The claim came even as a fresh batch of students participated in the hunger strike which entered its third day.

The agitating students have also decided to launch a campaign to mobilise support in the city from May 31. Under this campaign, batches of IIT students will go door to door to contact citizens and apprise them of the consequences of reservation. They will also seek their support in strengthening the anti-reservation campaign.

They have decided to sell T-shirts with anti-reservation slogans from this week onwards to raise funds and create awareness about the adverse consequences.

Students further claimed that almost all the visitors assured them of financial support. The agitating students said that they had approached the NRIs and the IIT alumni for extending their support to three planks.

First, they wanted the alumni to extend moral support, second, financial assistance and third put pressure on the government for withdrawing the reservation move.

Students on hunger strike included Omendra Singh, Suman, Indranuj, Rajesh, Atul, Hitesh, Apoorva, Prabha, Kunal and Bhuvan.
