In view of the rising number of vehicles, Haryana chief secretary Urvashi Gulati on Tuesday directed the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) to prepare the parking policy draft of the state. She also directed the city administration to launch a traffic management campaign to decongest roads and ensure better road discipline.

Gurgaon has over two dozen illegal parking lots and construction of multi-level parking remains a dream. Most roads are clogged due to heavy flow of vehicles. Gurgaon, alone, has over six lakh registered vehicles. About 50,000 in the city are registered every month.

Gulati said after framing the draft, consultation would be held to give a final shape to it. The policy is the need of the hour as Metro services are being extended from Delhi to various parts of the state.

She said the state government receives laurels for the way the city has developed, but is criticised when it comes to traffic management.

Gulati directed the district administration for constituting a panel to suggest ways for smooth traffic.

The committee would be represented by the departments of transport, Huda, HSIIDC, police, among others.
