Opposition BJP, which managed to reduce the Congress-led government in Goa into a minority by ensuring the support of a ruling coalition party, on Thursday named the new political grouping Goa Democratic Alliance.

Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar will be the leader of the coalition and the grouping has deciced to prove its strength on the floor of the assembly.

"We have decided to prove our strength on the floor of the House, as Governor SC Jamir, is not in the state", Parrikar told reporters.

His comments came after all 20 legislators of BJP, Save Goa Front, MGP, UGDP and an independent MLA met here to form a coalition.

The 49-day-old Congress-led coalition plunged into a crisis with two-member MGP and an independent withdrawing support to the government and a party MLA resigning abruptly reducing it to a minority.

Digamber Kamat-led government was sworn in on June eight after Congress got majority during the June two Goa assembly election.

Congress with 16 legislators, NCP three, MGP with two MLAs along with two more independents had formed the government then.

BJP with its 14 legislators had become the main Opposition party while two-member Save Goa Front and United Goans Democratic party with its lone legislator had given outside support to the Kamat-led government.
