Lauding the Panchayati Raj for opening up vistas of opportunities for the rural population, minister for labour, planning and development Ajay Sadhotra on Tuesday urged people to actively join the effort and be an important ingredient of the decision-making process.

He asserted that panchayats play an important role in rural development, essentially aiming at prioritising the schemes at the grassroots.

Interacting with people after the commencement of black topping of the Nandani-Sardarechak link road in Marh constituency, the minister said the need for better roads, drinking water, irrigation and civic amenities has gained impetus over the years. The minister asked the executing agency to ensure quality work and complete the projects within the stipulated time frame.

He said the government was committed to upgrade various facilities aimed at uplifting the quality of life, and the cooperation of the people was imperative to realise this initiative.

Sadhotra also reviewed various development works under execution in the constituency and asked officers concerned about their status.
