Parts of Kashmir under curfew

india Updated: Oct 16, 2010 01:20 IST

Anticipating protests after Friday prayers in the backdrop of the hardline Hurriyat faction’s protest and shutdown call, authorities enforced curfew in parts of Kashmir.

Traffic on the roads was thin and many schools, colleges and offices remained closed in areas under curfew.

South Kashmir’s Pampore area was brought under curfew after a 55-year-old resident, Ghulam Nabi Mir, who was allegedly beaten up by security forces on October 7, succumbed to his injuries late on Thursday night at a Srinagar hospital.

“The family members had alleged that Mir was injured due to alleged beating by some security personnel,” a police spokesperson said.
