Depressed over his illness, a 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the PGIMER in Chandigarh on Sunday.

Krishan Kalra, who hailed from Jarinegi village in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, was admitted to the PGIMER a week ago, police said.

Suffering from some lung ailment, he was depressed for sometime, they said.

He allegedly took the extreme step after sending his wife and son to buy some medicines for him, police said.

The patient was under the impression that the illness afflicting him was incurable, police said.
