Two minor boys have been arrested in Patna district for attempting to blackmail a school girl after making her nude video and posting it on WhatsApp.
The incident has come to light just over a month after the supreme court ordered the CBI to probe "forthwith" the posting of two rape videos on WhatsApp and nab the culprits.
Police in the Danapur sub-division of Patna district were in for a rude shock when a case involving an attempt to blackmail a school girl whose nude video was shot by using a smartphone and posted on whatsapp, came up for investigation.
To their horror, the police discovered both, the perpetrator of the crime – minor boys numbering five, as well as the victim, were minors, all from the same school.
Police said the boyfriend of the school girl took her to a desolate railway quarter in Neora Colony at Danapur, west of the state capital, and filmed her in a state of undress on his mobile.
Later, he showed the clip to his friends.
“Thereafter, one of his friends, a neighbour of the victim, tried to use the clip to blackmail the girl into ‘co-operating’ with her. When she refused, he circulated the MMS on whatsapp”, said the SHO of Khagaul police station Rajiv Kumar Singh.
According to the father of the victim, as soon as he got to know of the matter, he approached the local police. An FIR was filed and the boys were booked on Thursday, following an investigation.
The case had been lodged on the basis of the statement of the victim against her boyfriend and his associates.
By Friday, the boyfriend and the neighbour of the victim, who had taken a lead role in attempting to blackmail her, had been arrested. The police were on the lookout for three other boys allegedly involved in the incident.
"The arrested boys have been charged under IPC sections 376 (rape), 34-b, 354-c (sexual harassment) and 120-b (conspiracy) as well as under protection of children from sexual offences Act (POSCO) act and the IT Act 67(a) (publishing or transmitting material containing sexually explicit act in electronic form)", said Danapur SDPO Rajesh Kumar.
He said a mobile phone recovered from the possession of victim's boyfriend, used to film her in a state of undress, had been confiscated as evidence.
An officer investigating the case said the statements of the two minor boys who had been arrested had been recorded and the police were on the lookout for those on the run.
“We suspect that the boyfriend had made other such clips too. The investigation will reveal how many other clips of this nature were made. However, the mobile phone used by the blackmailer, the girl’s neighbour , is yet to be recovered," he added.
During interrogation, the neighbour admitted he had threatened to circulate the pictures of the victim and put them up on social networking sites if she did not agree to ‘co-operate’ with him.
When she declined, the MMS was put into WhatsApp circulation.
