Intensified patrolling in the seas along the Tamil Nadu coast continued for the second day on Thursday in the wake of the tense situation in Sri Lanka, official sources said.

No refugee had come in the past three days due to the heightened vigil. However, a large number of them are reportedly waiting to cross over to India, they said.

Over the past three to four months, a total of 586 refugees have arrived in Dhanushkodi in Ramanathapuram district.

These people are from Trincomalee, Mannar, Jaffna and Killinochi in Sri Lanka, they said.

Security has also been tightened at all 27 check posts in the district, they said.
