Former chief minister Omar Abdullah said the PDP forged an alliance with 'communal' BJP to grab power. He said the only concession the PDP got from the BJP is full six-year chief ministerial tenure for Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

"The PDP sought vote creating fear of BJP among the Muslims in the Valley. Has the BJP and RSS become less communal now? Shall we forget sacrifice of the Babri Masjid, 2002 (Gujarat riots), the Ghar wapsi agenda and the statements of Subramanian Swamy? Is this what you are going to sell to the people of Kashmir," said Omar in a discussion on the governor's address in the assembly.

Abdullah, who is the leader of the National Conference legislative party, targeted the BJP and the RSS.

The former CM said that during the electioneering Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had said the RSS is spreading poisonous rhetoric, while Mehbooba Mufti had said there will be no truck with the BJP.

"Just a month back, Mufti had said PM Narendra Modi was ill-informed about sensistive states like J&K. Now, the PM is a reasonable man. Things change but how can the man change in just three months," said Omar.

Deflecting discourse from CMP

Omar said the CM deliberately mentioned about the role of Pakistan and separatists in his press conference to deflect public attention from the common minimum programme (CMP), in which he got no concession from the BJP.

"You thought of your profit and it is what you got," said Omar, referring to the six-year tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

No concession on Art 370

Omar said even the BJP knows that it cannot scrap Article 370, so retaining constitutional status in the CMP was no concession.

"Had you talked about the self-rule (Indo-Pak currency, a formula proposed by former Pak president Pervez Musharraf) in the CMP, it would have been a concession," he said

Omar said after March 3, PM Modi said the government will abide by the resolution of Parliament on J&K, which states that it's an integral part of the country and Pakistan is in illegal possession of PoK.

"Now, how will you make separatists and people like Geelani to hold talks, about which you mention in the CMP, in this stated position," said Omar.

Failure on AFSPA

Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) can be revoked by de-notifying the disturbed area. The cabinet makes a recommendation about it. But you have given this power to the Centre in the CMP.

"I tried but failed but this is how you are going to strengthen the institution of CM," said Omar.

Flag controversy

The general administration department (GAD) can't issue any order without the knowledge of the CM, as he heads it. First, we were given to understand that order-mandating hoisting the state flag with the national flag was issued because of the pending court case.

"But why was the order rescinded? Did you get a call from Nagpur (the headquarters of RSS), Jhandewalan or New Delhi for it," said Omar.

Political prisoners

Omar said that the PDP president would say Omar Abdullah government had imprisoned thousands of people, including youth, under the Public Safety Act (PSA). But, now she has said only 16 people arrested under the PSA.
