Opposition Peoples Democratic Party today staged a demonstration in Srinagar demanding a special on-the-spot recruitment drive for the youth in the city.
The protestors, led by the PDP district president Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Asiya Naqash, marched from Maulana Azad Road to Lal Chowk, demanding a recruitment drive across the city on the pattern of the drive held last week in old city's Khanyar locality.
A special recruitment drive in the police department was held last week at Khanyar, in which youth participated in large numbers.
Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda had shortlisted 136 youth for the post of constables in the department.
The drive was, however, restricted for the youth hailing from areas falling under the jurisdiction of police station Khanyar.
The PDP called for "transparency and fairness" in the selection process and demanded wide publicity to the date and venue for any such recruitment drive in future.
