People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday demanded a high-level probe in the murder of a minor school boy and lashed out at the NC-Congress government for deteriorating law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We demand a high level probe into the whole episode to ascertain the truth in connection with the murder of 5th class student for ransom here," PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti told reporters after visiting the house of the victim Shalin Gupta.

She alleged that one of the main accused was released at the behest of a minister and said the PDP would not tolerate if any person involved in the incident is shielded by the government.

It is most shameful that police took the kidnapping case casually despite the fact that officers were aware that ransom was demanded from the family of the deceased boy, she said.

Shalin Gupta, who hailed from Nai Basti area and was a student of Air Force School, was kidnapped allegedly by two persons from a video parlour on the pretext of taking him for a ride on a motorcycle on June 11.

Law and order situation has been deteriorating in the state with every passing day and government has completely failed to protect the lives of the innocent citizens, she said, adding, there was total anarchy in the state and no one was safe.
