The PDP's legislature party met on Friday under the chairmanship of party president and leader of legislature party Mehbooba Mufti and was attended by party patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
According to the spokesman, the party discussed in detail the issues it would take up in the forth coming session of legislators starting from 26th September.
Addressing the media, Mehbooba Mufti listed the issues which the party has prioritized for projection. She said the session was scheduled for a brief seven working days, which was inadequate in view of the large number of problemsand issues faced by the people.
Mehbooba said the development in the state had come to a stand still under the present government , all the major initiatives taken by the previous government like Prime Ministers reconstruction plan and Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded schemes had been running late and some of them have been abandoned all together.
She said Srinagar city had suffered the most under the present government as funds to the tune of Rs 48 crores were diverted which was meant for construction of roads here.
Similarly the beautification of Jehlum has been stopped and improvement of Eidgah abandoned. She said as a result of the incompetence of state government the 3rd phase of ADB funds had been shelved.
The PDP president said that it was unfortunate that no action had been taken even in a single case of 120 killings last summer. She said some of the cases were well documented and the Chief Minister had promised action in 24 hours in cases like the killing of three youth in Anantnag and even one youth in sopore recently but nothing has happened during the last one year. She said the pary would also focus on the very serious revelations about thousands of unmarked graves in different areas of the state. She said that the party would press the government for action on the four directions issued by SHRC on the subject. These include identification of the killed persons, payment of compensation to their families, prosecution of the guilty and creation of a mandatory body to take specific action on the whole issue.
Mehbooba said empowerment of Panchayats was reduced to repeating the same announcement after every fortnight. She said that the actual empowerment has not been done and the PDP would raise this issue with full force in the legislature.
Referring to the increasing use of Narcotic drugs among the youth of the state Mehbooba said this has emerged as a major challenge to the society and the manace could effect adversely our coming generations. She said it was a sad fact that many teenagers had got into the drug net and the PDP would raise this issue so that legislative and social initiatives are taken to curb it. She said similarly there is no drug policy in the state and quacks and untrained persons sold and administered drugs with impunity. She said trict legat measures need to be taken to enforce discipline on the medicine market and party would press for a legislation on the issue so that spurious and un authorized drugs do not reach the market and unscrupulous elements are curbed.
