At last, the Amarnath land row seems be blowing over.
“A broad understanding has been reached on the final draft,” said an official spokesperson of the state government.
“It would be made public in a couple of days,” added a source privy to the talks.
“The two negotiating sides have agreed on the use of the land by the Shrine Board for the pilgrimage period of three months,” a source said. This was the crux of the problem that led to the agitation.
The talks have been “productive and fruitful” S.S. Bloeria and Suchjet Singh representing the government and agitators’ teams respectively told reporters.
‘Police killed Aziz’
Senior Hurriyat Conference leader and Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah has countered National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan’s claim that Shaikh Aziz was not killed by security forces.
“I am an eyewitness to the murder of my colleague,” Shah told HT on Saturday.
Shah said Aziz and he were in the front line, leading the march on the Srinagar Muzaffarabad Road to cross the Line-of-Control on August 11.
“Police and CRPF men fired directly at us. Bullets hit several people, including Shaikh Aziz,” Shah said.
