A D Peoples created a new record in the big bore standard rifle prone position (Men) with 562 points (the previous being 554) while C R Das of AMU set a new record in the big bore free rifle 3 position with 534 points (previous record was 522) in the 16th All-India G V Mavlakar Shooting Competition that concluded at CR1 shooting range, Infantry School, here on Saturday.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the range on Sunday evening. Infantry School deputy commandant Major General Anand Mohan Verma gave away the prizes while Mhow station commander Brigadier P K Kaushik, AMU commanding officer Colonel I J Peoples and a large number of officers, their families and shooters were present on the occasion.
In the big bore open sight 300 m rifle (Civilians) event, Das took the gold with 433 points while K Shyam Sunder (427) and Moses Prasad (419) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the big bore open sight 300 m rifle (Army) fixture, Sepoy Yadav Chand with 371 points won the gold while Sepoy Pradeep Lanjana (349) and Lance Naik Raghvinder Singh (341) bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the big bore peep sight 300 m rifle (Women), Lieutenant J Sophia with 537 points won the gold medal. Aparajita Tiwari, daughter of Lieutenant Colonel A N Tiwari of AMU, stood second with 525 points.
Meanwhile, in the big bore peep sight 300 m rifle (Army) event, Havildar Tejmal with 579 points won the gold. Major P Dahiya (569) and Sepoy Narendra Khodi (567) took the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the big bore free standard rifle prone position (Men), A D Peoples bagged the gold medal with 562 points while Gusti Noria (522) and Kaustav Roy (487) were placed second and third respectively.
In the big bore free rifle 300 m 3 position (Services), C R Das scored 534 points to take the gold medal. Hari Singh with 468 points and Nale Amol with 435 points were the silver and bronze medal winners in the same event.
In the big bore 300 m sports rifle 3 position (Women), Lieutenant J Sophia won the gold. Since there were only two participants in this fixture, silver medal was not awarded.
In the big bore 300 m 3 position (Services), L Singh excelled with 566 points. Sushil Ghale (562) and Imran Hasan Khan (557) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Amrik Singh, a class X student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mhow, stood fourth with a score of 386 points in the big bore open sight (Civilians) segment.
Amrik is the son of Subedar Sukhdev Singh, an AMU shooter, who has created several records at the national and international level. Incidentally, these records have been bettered only by himself.
