Mahindra United wily coach Derrick Pereira dedicated his teams 4-1 win against Mohun Bagan to his ailing neice Keira. "This was a great win and I thank God. This was a personal win for me and dedicate this big victory to my neice and godchild, Keira, who is suffering from a heart ailment," Pereira told media persons at the post match conference.
"It was a good performance from the team. The boys had promised that they would do their best and they did a good job. We are fully satisfied with the result," he said.
On whether he was surprised with the outcome, he said: "I felt that it would be a tough match. But the manner in which the team performed was excellent. The team stuck to the plan and bottled up Jose Ramirez Barretto and Baichung Bhutia."
"This is one of our best wins and it great to come against a top team."
Mohun Bagan coach Robson Mattos although not making any excuses, attributed the defeat to the errors his players made. "The boys made too many mistakes, especially in the defence," Mattos said. "Since we were without our key defenders Brazilian Eduardo Chacon Coelho Lacerda 'Du' (injured) and Sanjeev Kumar Maria serving a one match suspension, I tried out some youngsters, but they could not handle the pressure," he added.
"I.m not taking the credit from Mahindra United. They have great players and proved it today,"
"They also blocked us out of the match. Barretto and Bhutia were not allowed to combine and create chances," said Mattos.
'This defeat will help the players to look forward and improve their game. I also hope that they regain their confidence from the netx match."
Bagan take on Mumbai outfit Air India in Kolkata on January 20.
