Television baron Peter Mukerjea recorded his statement with the Mumbai police on the murder of his step daughter Sheena Bora as a search was carried out at his residence on Wednesday.
Peter reached the Khar police station at 10.30am to record his statement. His wife Indrani Mukerjea -- mother of Sheena -- is under arrest in the case along with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai.
The police are understood to have questioned the three accused in the presence of Peter and their counsel in perhaps the first such confrontation in the case.
TV reports said police searched for documents at the house where Peter and Indrani stay, as they suspect there was a financial motive behind Sheena's murder.
Police sources said Peter, the former CEO of Star India, was abroad in Europe when the murder took place on April 24, 2012.
Last week, Mukerjea had gone to the police station, but police refused to accept a written statement from him saying they would call him for questioning when needed.
Peter, who has been married to Indrani for 13 years and set up INX Media with her, had first claimed that he was unaware that Sheena was his wife's daughter and that Indrani had introduced her as her sister.
A few days after Indrani's arrest, he amended his version to say Sheena did inform him that she was his step-daughter, but he found no reason to disbelieve his wife's version.
He also said the same thing was communicated to him by his son Rahul Mukerjea, who was engaged to Sheena when she was murdered.
Indrani and the other two accused were arrested on August 24 for allegedly strangling Sheena inside a car in Mumbai three years ago and dumping the body in the forests of nearby Raigad.
The 24-year-old's purported remains were found in May 2012 and buried by the police, who treated the body as unclaimed.
For three years, Indrani Mukerjea told her family and friends that Sheena had shifted to the US. She continued to maintain that even after Rahul discovered Sheena's passport at his residence.
