ARMED ROBBERS struck at Green Petrol Pump in MP Nagar late on Saturday night and decamped with cash after injuring a petrol pump employee, adding to the recent spate of robberies and violent incidents at petrol pumps in the City.
According to information, nearly half-a-dozen robbers carrying knives and a country-made revolver came in a multi-utility vehicle, which they parked outside the petrol pump at around 10:30 pm.
They approached the employees of the petrol pump and demanded cash. One of the robbers attacked an employee Santosh with a knife, which the latter warded off with his arm. However, he was injured in the face and finger.
The robbers collected the cash on the person of the employee and fled the spot. The petrol pump owner Arif Hasan claimed that the robbers were more than half-a-dozen in number and some of them remained outside while others came at the pump, armed with at least one revolver and knives.
He said that around Rs 15,000-20,000 cash was taken away. Additional SP (City) G K Pathak said that the amount robbed was over Rs 5,000 and that the robbers were armed with rods. Pathak said that the robbers looked from rural background. Lately, half-a-dozen violent incidents including murder, ransacking and loots have occurred at petrol pumps in the Capital.
On November 15, a petrol pump at Khajuri was robbed followed by the incident involving loot of Rs 3.06 lakh with a petrol pump manager in Piplani on November 24. A month later, Lalghati petrol pump witnessed the murder of a petrol pump employee. On January 24, a Petrol Pump at Neelbad was attacked by a mob of over 250 persons and a petrol pump at New Market was ransacked.
